BY GORDON WADE T he committee that developed Category Management 2.0 — including 20 lead- ing companies representing retailers, manufacturers and solution providers — divided it into 17 "work streams" (e.g,. assortment, ROI, shopper marketing) and made the document keyword searchable. We'll touch briefly on a few improvements (the "what's new" boxes) in each of the 17 work streams. Here, we'll summarize CatMan 2.0 at a high level. Time for a Change Why did we overhaul CatMan 1.0, one of the most successful business practices of the 20 th century? Because everything in the CPG environment has changed in the 20-plus years since CatMan was designed. e retail environment has changed. It's more diverse, more competitive and more blurred.
