For retailers, CatMan 2.0-era space management systems integrate historical sales and predicted demand for products and categories with floor plans and plano- grams for every store to create a living digital model of their entire chain. For the supply chain, the space awareness in Cat- Man 2.0 provides more accurate, complete and up-to- date data that make ordering, manufacturing, shipping and receiving, and stocking in stores more effective and efficient. It also helps to determine how and where to warehouse, how to pack and deliver products for ef- ficient replenishment and stocking in stores, and what sizes of products and displays will fit on the shelf. Getting it Right An important aspect of the space-aware supply chain for stores and the supply chain is the ability to input accurate, appropriate reorder points for each product based on shelf capacity, case-pack (or minimum order quantity) and days of supply to enable point-of-sale systems to do automated replenishment based on units scanned at checkout, which saves store personnel hun- dreds of hours a year. For category managers, the space-aware supply chain enables CatMan 2.0 strategies and tactics to succeed in stores on time, and over time, so that they deliver their intended benefits every time. And ultimately, the CatMan 2.0-era space-aware supply chain benefits shoppers: the products they want, need or would like to see get to the right stores, fit in the right places, and ap- pear fresh at the right time, all of the time.
