April 2016 | Defining the Independent Market | 25 The Women Grocers of America (WGA) presented the Woman of the Year award to Sheri Satterwhite, EVP human resources for Tyler, Texas-based Brookshire Grocery Co. Satterwhite, who joined Brook- shire in 1994, was only the second woman in the company's history to be named a VP. She was an early proponent of wellness as a means of improving health and controlling health benefit costs. "WGA is proud to present this award to a proven leader, who has positively impacted her organiza- tion and the industry," said Jodie Felter, VP professional development for WGA. Outgoing Chairman of the NGA Board of Directors Rich Niemann Jr., president and CEO of Niemann Foods, in Quincy, Ill., was recognized at the Chairman's Dinner and Gala at the NGA Show for his leadership dur- ing the past two years. Te incoming chairman, Bob Ling, CEO of Com- merce, Calif.-based Unifed Grocers, was also recognized. "Rich has done an exceptional job of shaping this organization for the past two years, and we thank him for his hard work and leadership during his tenure as NGA chairman of the board," said Peter Larkin, NGA president and CEO. "Bob will come in as chairman with an outstanding foundation, and we look forward to working with him to continue to build success for the organization."
