Offered in short bursts during the season, Organic Heirloom Apples come in 15 varieties including Cox's Orange Pippin, Matsu, Orleans Reinette, Roxbury Russet, and Arkansas Black. Frieda's Organic Heirloom Apples are grown in California. Frieda's Inc. Los Alamitos, Calif. Sugar alternative Conscious Food debuts SugaVida, a plant-based, organic sweetener. SugaVida is derived from the sap of the Palmyra palm tree, which is grown organically and harvested sustainably in Southeast India. Popular across Europe and referred to as the "sugar for diabetics" in Ayurvedic medicine, SugaVida sweetens naturally while providing health benefits. One tablespoon of SugaVida is equivalent of 80 percent of the RDA of vitamin B12 and 500 percent of the RDA for B6. SugaVida retails for $13.50 for 8.8 oz. Conscious Food UK Ltd. London Organic soups Blount Fine Foods added a line of 16-oz. organic soups, which will be sold at retail under the Blount brand. The new lineup includes Organic Vegetable Chili, Minestrone Soup, Tomato Bisque, and Lentil and Chick Pea Soup. The new Blount Organics line, which has a 50-day shelf life from the date of manufacture, will ship refrigerated in cases of six, 16-oz. cups. Blount Fine Foods Corp. Fall River, Mass. Squeezable syrup bottle Butternut Mountain Farm, a family- owned business in Vermont that produces and distributes locally grown, organic products, rolled out a new maple syrup squeeze bottle that will be available in more than 300 stores on the East Coast. The new squeeze bottle aims to eliminate the mess, waste and poor portion control of traditional maple syrup packaging. It will be available in select Walmart, Wegmans and Whole Foods stores. Butternut Mountain Farm Morrisville, Vt. Organic tomato sauces Steve Schirripa, star of HBO's The Sopranos, launched Uncle Steve's Italian Specialties and a line of tomato sauces of the same name. The sauces are U.S. Department of Agriculture certified organic, gluten free, dairy free, vegan, and contain no added sugar. Home cooks will get to experience the fresh taste of organic Italian-grown tomatoes and basil simmered with vegetables and infused with spices. Uncle Steve's tomato sauces are available in three flavors: Marinara, Tomato Basil, and Arrabiata. Uncle Steve's Italian Specialties Staten Island, N.Y. Yacon syrup Navitas Naturals launched organic Yacon Syrup and raw Yacon Slices. They are made from the tuberous root of a perennial plant that grows in the highlands of Peru. Both products are certified organic, GMO-free and kosher. Yacon Syrup contains about half the calories of cane sugar. Yacon Slices taste like an exotic dried apple. Yacon Syrup is offered in an 8-oz. squeeze bottle for $24.99. The raw organic Yacon Slices are packaged in a 2-oz. resealable pouch with a suggested retail price of $5.99. Navitas Naturals Novato, Calif. Cracked freekeh Bob's Red Mill Natural Foods released Organic Cracked Freekeh. Cracked freekeh is made by lightly roasting whole wheat kernels, then cracking them to create a wholegrain food with a texture similar to bulgur, with a mild, nutty flavor. Bob's Red Mill Organic Cracked Freekeh cooks in 25 minutes. It also can be enjoyed as a hot breakfast porridge. Freekeh is an excellent source of fiber, high in iron and other essential minerals, and provides 7 grams of protein per serving. It has a suggested retail price of $6.99 per 16-oz. package. Bob's Red Mill Natural Foods Portland, Ore. White chocolate peanut butter cups Justin's, maker of all-natural, high- quality nut butters and organic peanut butter cups, launched White Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups. Currently available in dark and milk chocolate, Justin's organic peanut butter cups contain a dash of sea salt to create a melt-in-your mouth experience. The U.S. Department of Agriculture certified-organic cups, made from Rainforest Alliance Certified cocoa, are gluten free and contain zero trans fat.
